Abstract: |
Baudelaire stated at the end of "The Stranger": " I love the clouds, the clouds that pass. As a pioneer of
symbolic literature, the "cloud" in his key narrative should have its symbolic significance. This article
discusses two kinds of conjectures from the image of "cloud" in "The Stranger": First, "wandering", speci-
fically, it can be a vehicle that allows the wanderers to go everywhere, or “golden clouds floated like
voyaging continents”. Second, "death", specifically, it can be a "large sarcophagi" or " the hearses of my
dreams". In particular, the argument for "cloud" as the image of "death" is bold, orderly and very innovative. |
